Cell phones have changed my life.
Now I hate people.

Very good, Mark.

When I first settled in London there were a small minority of people who wandered the streets talking to themselves. Now the streets are overrun with soliloquisers holding forth while clutching their ear.

I'm one.

Oh if someone were taking note of the number of mobile phone users I wanted to feed the wretched devices to over the course of a day, I would be arrested.

Sadly, that doesn't make me any less attatched to mine.

Mostly I only feel rage towards the obnoxious phone users (shouters, people who answer before the phone gets to their mouth, people who answer phones/send text while you are talking directly to them, people who refuse to turn the keypad tones off, at least when they send a text, people who answer their phones while I am trying to serve them in the damn shop, people who can't take their phones outside when they get a call in a restaraunt and people who think everybody around becomes deaf when they are on a call and therefore feel free to have graphic/disgusting/naughty phone calls on, for example, the bus... it is a long list) so I justify the slight hypocrisy by trying not to be one of them.

Good examples of the circumstances that led to the Errant Thought.

Then there's always the bathroom conversation that you find out, belatedly, that it is cellular.

I tend to dodge that one by automatically ignoring anyone who talks to me in a public bathroom unless we are both at the hand-washing stage at least.

There are five kinds of people that I truly hate in this world: journalists, photojournalists, peace activists, poets, and young people. Luckily I fall into all but two of those categories.
