Did you hear?

Mon Dec 21, 2009, 12:25 PM
dA poet Salshep has made a cogent plea for dA to incorporate sound files for poetry.

I couldn't agree more heartily. Performance works get short shrift on this platform. Just a touch of sound would give the art form new life.

So contact your favorite (or not so favorite) administrator and waggle about the forums with this plea....

"We that have ears...
Let us hear."

Reminder -- Poetry Submission Period Open

Mon Nov 30, 2009, 6:52 AM
A reminder that poets will have until the end of January to submit for one of the presentation slots at the Montserrat Poetry Festival to be held at Montserrat Vineyards (Montserrat, Missouri, USA) next year.

Organizers are seeking poets to present original works that would help comprise an entertaining and varied program for a general audience.

Event organizer Mark Pearce requests that interested writers submit 10 poems – around 6 of which may ultimately be presented at the event. Pearce suggests that each entrant submit works that are fit for a general audience, are audibly accessible and that will illustrate a variety of themes and styles.

Note me, via DeviantArt, for the submission address.

Submission deadline is January 30th, 2010. The presentation line-up for the festival will be announced in mid-February. Around 175 people attended the second Poetry Festival this past summer. Pearce said he expects over 200 people will be attending next year’s event.

The 2010 Poetry Festival is being sponsored by KMOS-TV – Missouri’s Public Television Station and by Montserrat Vineyards, which will once again be hosting.

The Poetry Festival will take place Sunday afternoon, May 23, 2010 at Montserrat Vineyards, Montserrat, Missouri. Those wanting to learn more, or who want to be placed on the festival’s e-mail announcements list, can "note" me or access the web site

And whacked her father forty-one

Sat Nov 14, 2009, 1:35 PM
One of the biggest surprises I've had so far in publicizing the Montserrat Poetry Festival is finding that an old friend and co-worker from yesteryear (some 30 years back) is an accomplished writer and poet.

Larry W. Allen is past president of the Columbia Missouri chapter of the Missouri Writer's Guild and he has had poems published in a variety of magazines and journals.

I recently picked up a copy of his book "Do Come In - and other Lizzie Borden poems." It is a wonderful read. In the compilation Larry presents fifty short poems capturing myriad facets of Lizzie Borden's life...some of which may be considered a bit...sensational...I think that's the right word.

Anyway, the overall collection has historical insight, humor, intrigue, emotion, mystery...lots of good stuff in small packages, and I would highly recommend it. The Amazon link is –

Oh, and it's got some vintage photos too.

That's unnecessary

This series on "unnecessary quotation marks" is quite a bit of fun.

I think "writers" will enjoy it.
